So I’m posting this very late. But it’s still kind of fun.

Inspired by my friend, Steve Earley’s new years post, and bouncing off some of the professional goals I already made for myself… here are nine things I’d like to do this year related to my hobbies and other fun miscellany:

1. Add more photo albums to my main site, and took more photos.
2. Read more. Right now, I’m reading Walter Issaacson’s Benjamin Franklin: An American Life.
3. Video blog book reviews, a good incentive to read more.
4. Learn a song on the guitar. A hobby I’ve slacked on big time.
5. Write a short story.
6. Volunteer at something. Last year, I built a website for a nonprofit.
7. Do a 365 Project. Yeah, I’m late, but whatever.
8. Start running, run a 5K and not suck at it.
9. Start playing basketball again.

I just watched this documentary about life at the New York Times. It’s a fascinating look inside the paper as it confronts the transforming media industry. Definitely worth watching.

The Caps vs Mapleleafs – here in a faceoff in the second period.

I took in my first NHL game yesterday – the Washington Capitals vs. the Toronto Mapleleafs at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC. Growing up in Florida, hockey has never been a big part of my sports life.

The game served as a mini-reunion for myself and a few buddies from grad school. I had a blast watching Dennis Wideman of The Capitals almost get a hat trick.

My thoughts on hockey? I think I found a new sport I can enjoy! I loved the pace, physicality and traditions of it. I think I just may turn into a Caps fan…

I’m not a huge fan of Pearl Jam, but found this documentary enthralling.

And how can you not be inspired by The Pixar Story.
